The Provost and Academic Vice Chancellor is the chief academic officer of Montana State University Billings and is responsible to the Chancellor for all operations of the University related to instructional programs, educational policy, academic planning, academic resources, and faculty personnel actions. In addition, the Provost is responsible for academic support units including the Library, the Office of Graduate Studies, Grants and Sponsored Programs, the Office of International Studies and Outreach Academic Success Center, MSUB Extended Campus, and Information Technology. The Provost serves as an advocate for the College Deans and the faculty and students of MSU Billings.

Dr. Balter-Reitz
The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs serves as the chief aide to the Provost.  The Vice Provost is the Accreditation Liaison Officer, and is responsible for oversight of both the University’s regional accreditation activities, and the various professional and disciplinary accreditations across the Colleges of the University.  In addition, the Vice Provost, as the University’s assessment officer, chairs the Accreditation and Assessment Council, a broadly representative council that manages the University assessment and accreditation activities.  The Vice Provost also leads the Chancellor’s Student Success and Gateways to Completion Committees, with broad oversight of the University’s initiatives to improve student success, retention, and completion rates.   The current Vice Provost also serves as a Professor of Communication, where she teaches classes in law, ethics and argumentation theory.
