MSU BILLINGS NEWS—Montana State University Billings administrators, faculty and staff members from a variety of campus departments partook in the second Buzzin’ Beyond Billings tour of eastern Montana from May 7-9.

Social events took place at four tour stop locations in Miles City, Glendive, Sidney and Poplar. The group also stopped in Lame Deer, Colstrip and Glasgow during the three-day trip.

Chancellor Edelman giving a radio interviewCommunity members, alumni and friends of the university were able to meet with representatives from athletics, recruitment, development and alumni relations for MSU Billings updates and the opportunity to ask questions.

The tour met individuals and organizations who were excited to help MSU Billings enhance relationships in their region. Leadership visits, meetings with community partners and alumni, stops at local landmarks, like KLTZ Radio and the Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial in Fort Peck, and science shows at local high schools helped grow partnerships across the eastern side of the state.

Chancellor Dan Edelman noted that several of the key partnerships and discussions that resulted from the trip included partnering with Stockman Bank to provide educational opportunities to students in eastern Montana in the form of scholarships and encouraging MSU Billings graduates to return to rural Montana; ensuring that students are taking the right courses to prepare them for future careers at companies like Oneok, who is seeking to hire graduates of City College for high-paying jobs; providing seamless pathways to enhance educational opportunities and improve retention rates for special populations, like veteran and Native American students; and visiting with alumni who expressed interest in mentoring current students and helping with internships.
