MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The Mayor of Billings, Bill Cole, has proclaimed that this Friday, October 5 is Montana State University Billings Day. All citizens are encouraged to participate in homecoming festivities Friday through Sunday.

Mayor Cole originally declared this proclamation at the City Council meeting on September 24, 2018. On the university campus of MSU Billings, a proclamation ceremony will be held at noon on the new green field (old Academic Support Center building site). This will formally kick-off Jacket Homecoming activities for MSUB with short presentations by Mayor Cole and Chancellor Edelman. The community of Billings and all MSU Billings faculty, staff, and students are invited to the proclamation ceremony. Following the ceremony, MSUB students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community have the opportunity to participate in a group SWARM day photo to spell out the letters M-S-U-B.

This is the first time in a number of decades MSU Billings has held homecoming activities. "Homecoming means tradition. MSUB has been part of the fabric of Billings and a great partner ever since 1927,” Cole commented. “Looking forward, our futures will be as interconnected as our past."

Cole is proud of MSUB and considers himself a member of the MSUB family as his wife, Anne, is an instructor at City College and his uncle attended Eastern Montana Normal School in the 1930s. He understands the higher education and workforce needs that face Billings currently and into the future. "Billings needs to retain and attract thousands of men and women to fill the jobs that are essential to the economy of our community” states Cole. “MSUB is the backbone of our workforce development plan for the future."

A variety of events are planned to bring back the buzz. “As a campus, we are excited about Jacket Homecoming and the opportunities it provides to connect our campus and the Billings community,” shared Chancellor Dan Edelman. “I encourage everyone to follow Mayor Cole’s proclamation and join us for all of the homecoming festivities.”
