Dr. Joy Honea

 

MSU Billings announces Acting Associate Dean of College of Business and College of Allied Health Professions

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES —Dr. Joy Honea has been named the Acting Associate Dean of the College of Business and the College of Allied Health Professions at Montana State University Billings. Honea will begin her new role on August 20.

 

Honea has been at MSU Billings as a professor in the Department of Social Sciences & Cultural Studies since 2003. She served as the department chair from 2012 to 2018. Honea’s area of expertise in teaching include introduction to sociology, social problems, sociology of gender/women’s and gender studies, and social psychology.

 

During her years at MSU Billings, Honea has served on and led multiple committees and boards. She is the chair of the Holistic Enrollment and Retention Committee, a member of the Academic Senate, president of the MSU Billings Faculty Association, and a member of the Disability Support Services Advisory Board. Additionally, she is a member of the Women’s Studies Advisory Board and has been on the Honors Advisory Council since 2008.

 

In the Billings community, Honea was involved in the Billings Family YMCA Annual Campaign as a team leader, the advisory committee for the Office of Women’s Health “Healthy by Design” Project, Friends of Planned Parenthood of Montana as the board chair, and also served as the faculty advisor for student participation in the Women in WWII Suitcase Project conducted by the Museum of Women’s History.

 

In 2018, Honea was honored with the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Associated Students of Montana State University Billings. She received a Montana State University Billings Faculty Excellence Award in 2012.

 

Honea received her bachelor’s degree in sociology, along with her certificate in Women’s Studies, her master’s, and her doctorate from Colorado State University.
