Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony
April 9, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (awards announced at 6 p.m.) Guest Juror: Stephen Glueckert

Is It Worth It?, WatercolorMSUB Department of Art’s 2015 Juried Student Show opens on Thursday, April 9, with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This year’s guest juror, Stephen Glueckert, will announce cash awards for selected artworks at 6 p.m. Announcements of MSUB’s Department of Art’s annual scholarship winners will follow.

The reception and ceremony are catered and free and open to the public.

Submissions were received in response to an exhibition call extended earlier this year to all students currently enrolled at Montana State University Billings and 23 students were selected by the juror for inclusion. The artworks selected testify to the rich talents and diverse visions of MSUB students working across a broad range of media.

Stephen Glueckert was born in Missoula, Montana and received a BFA from the University of Idaho and an M. Ed. in Art Education from Western Washington University.  He has taught throughout the Northwest and at the University of Papua New Guinea, and he is the recipient of a Montana Individual Artist’s Fellowship. In addition to being a practicing studio artist, Glueckert has written extensively about contemporary artists of Montana. He has been Senior Curator of Exhibitions at the Missoula Art Museum since 1992.

The exhibition is a unique professional development opportunity for MSUB students, familiarizing them with the process of applying to juried shows and offering them experiences with preparing artwork for gallery display and presentation. Gallery Director Leanne Gilbertson notes: "I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with Steve and am excited to have him visit and see the exceptional work of our students, including that of our gallery assistants and my gallery practices students who have been involved in all aspects of realizing this exhibition.”
