MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Courses that will challenge you, enrich you or help you advance your career will be offered at Montana State University Billings this summer.

 

Summer sessions begin May 11, but the program is designed with flexible start dates to better meet the needs of working adults or college students who are returning to Billings from another city.

 

Summer session at MSU Billings takes an innovative “3-5-5” approach. The first three weeks run in May with subsequent five-week sessions following in June and July. The 3-5-5 allows for flexible scheduling and multiple opportunities for breaks so families can still get in a summer vacation.  There are even plenty of online offerings for those who want flexibility of logging in from home or their favorite vacation spots.

 

Whether the courses are in philosophy, communications, alternative energy or cabinet making, the summer sessions at MSU Billings offers plenty of opportunities for people to improve their skills that will advance their careers.

 

Some of workforce training and advancement courses include:

  • “Create Your Best Career.” This one-credit class offered through the College of Professional Studies and Lifelong Learning runs June 1 to July 2 and meets on Monday evenings. It is designed to help students prepare for and excel in a job interview and better understand how to use personal interests and strengths to make career choices.

  • “Alternative Energy Fuel for the Future.” This two-credit class is offered at the College of Technology and is a daylong course that runs July 6-10.  It provides students with a alternative energy fundamentals, economic and social aspects of renewable energy and technologies with emphasis on solar cells, wind and hydro power.

  • “Cabinet Making.” This COT course runs May 11 through July 2 and meets in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It will introduce students to cabinet construction, including base and upper units.
