MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — For her work as an agent of change, Haylee Mooney, a sophomore at Montana State University Billings, is named among the 2017 class of Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact.

“Haylee is the epitome of a student leader,” said Interim Chancellor Ron Larsen, “As a Resident Assistant (RA) on campus, she has worked to address mental health, sustainability, and student volunteerism. Haylee is the first one to volunteer and empowers many other students to volunteer with her.”

Mooney first became a volunteer in middle school and remained involved throughout high school.

“I was involved with many different things such as Student Government and multiple volunteer organizations, while developing leadership experience through athletics and community involvement,” Mooney said. “In college, I have empowered others to be involved both on campus and in the community by providing opportunities of growth and support.”

One of her main roles on campus has been as a resident assistant with MSU Billings Housing and Residence Life, which has given her the opportunity to connect with residents and further their path to achieve individual goals.

She helped re-create the housing volunteer program to offer opportunity for community engagement and as part of the Student United Way helped organize a sock drive and lunch for area homeless.

“I will continue to develop as a leader and encourage others to do the same,” Mooney said.

Interim Associate Dean of Students Jeff Rosenberry said, “they are excited to watch her journey through this fellowship and her continued proactive representation of MSUB.”

“Service to humanity is the best work of life and Haylee embodies this in all that she does,” Rosenberry said.
