Cans Around McMullen looks to break first year food drive haul

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Cans Around McMullen was such a success last year that it provided Family Services, Inc. with its largest donation of non-perishable food items at a single time.
Last year, with the help of students, faculty, staff and community members, the group was able to line cans all the way around McMullen Hall. The Montana State University Billings’ Office for Community Involvement is hoping this year’s collection is even bigger.
“We had 1,256 non-perishable items collected last year,” said Volunteer Engagement Coordinator Shayla Fox. “Our goal is to surpass that this year.”
In order to accomplish that, Fox is optimistic for even more people and community members to get involved.
“We’re hoping to build off the excitement and success we’ve had and make this upcoming Cans Around McMullen even bigger,” she said.
City College students will also be able to participate this year, as food collection tubs will be in Technology Building commons area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The food collection effort is augmented with a call for participants to bring a canned food or other non-perishable food donation to Saturday’s Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m. at the MSUB Peaks to Plains Park.
Community members are encouraged to stop by MSUB’s McMullen Hall to make donations and volunteers needed for one-hour shifts are also needed. For more information, please contact Fox at shayla.fox@msubillings.edu.
