Course features discussions from Billings business leaders

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — As dean of the College of Business at Montana State University Billings, Dr. Gary Young wears many hats. He works as a coach, a cheerleader, a fundraiser, an adviser for students and main strategic planner for the college that serves nearly 700 students.

G Young 2.jpgThis fall, however, he’ll wear another hat: professor.

Young will teach an upper-level seminar class on entrepreneurship and family business. “Entrepreneurship and Family Business Management,” which will be listed as Economics 494, is a three-credit class that will be offered Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. this fall and is available to anyone in the community.

Young said while the class will be good for university students, it will be of value to anyone in the community who wants to learn strategies on how to be a successful in a small business or how to deal with issues that relate to family businesses. Those who take the class will develop business plans, fine tune existing plans and work on marketing strategies for existing businesses. They will also get real-life lessons from local business experts such as Sam and Greg McDonald of Wendy’s of Montana; Billie Ruff from Travel Café; and Kris Carpenter, owner of Sanctuary Spas.

To find out more about the class, contact Young at the College of Business at 657-2326. To register for the three-credit class, which will cost $780, those who are not currently enrolled students will need to contact the Office of Admission and Records.  Find out more, call 657-2158 or go to www.msubillings.edu/future/Apply/.
