MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The Northcutt Steele Gallery at Montana State University Billings presents “States of Grace,” a solo exhibition of large-scale drawings by Florida artist Clive King.

large-scale drawingThe exhibition opens Friday, Jan. 16 in the Northcutt Steele Gallery on the MSU Billings main campus with a reception from 5-7 p.m.  This exhibition remains on view through Friday, Feb. 13. As always, gallery admission is free of charge.

King is currently a professor of fine art at Florida International University in Miami.  He has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally including The Museum of Modern Art in Wales, United Kingdom and Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art in Florida.  He has also been published extensively, including “Drawing: A Contemporary Approach” by Teel Sale and Claudia Betti, a book used in many university fine arts programs.

This will mark the first Montana showing for King and his work. The high energy drawings will be great catalysts for discussion.  According to the artist, “I’m exploring the concept of retribution for over-ambition. I am using the war in Iraq as the setting which is universally recognized as the original location of the Tower of Babel and ironically, to many, seems to be a reverse mirror image of God’s plan. I leave the intentions of the work deliberately ambiguous.”
