Business class at MSU BillingsMSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Anyone interested in jump-starting their career or finding out if college life is the right fit for them can do so with a new program at Montana State University Billings.

The new “MSU Billings Career Stimulus Plan” provides people the opportunity to either investigate an interesting subject matter or take a class needed for degree completion. Each of the seven three-credit classes begins on March 9 and will run for eight weeks. Current and new students are encouraged to apply.

“This is a great way for people to either get their college studies started or explore a new career path,” said Stacy Klippenstein, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at MSU Billings. “There has been a lot of talk about stimulating the economy, but we believe the best kind of investment is the one people make in themselves and their future. There is no sense in making people wait any longer so we want to provide them an opportunity to get started now.”

MSU Billings academic and student affairs leaders collaborated on the new project that provides access to the classes both online and at the university. Current students who want to add a class during spring semester can do so with under this plan.

The classes — all three credits — include:

  • Philosophy 117, philosophies of life class, offered online.
  • Psychology 101, introduction to psychology, offered online.
  • Communications 130, introduction to public speaking, offered on the MSU Billings main campus.
  • Data processing 105, introduction to computer applications, offered online.
  • Introduction to business 171, a general business class, offered online.
  • Health 150, a health occupations terminology class, offered at the MSU Billings College of Technology.
  • Psychology 592, a graduate-level psychology class offered at the MSU Billings main campus.

In addition to the individual classes that are offered, the health, business and computer courses also provide three separate degree-completion pathways for new students as they provide the first two courses (or six credits) that are needed to get started in three College of Technology degree programs. They are:

  • The new Associate of Science (AS) in Business Administration degree with a 2+2 degree completion pathway toward the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree at the MSU Billings College of Business (Data processing 105 and Introduction to Business 171)

  • The Certificate of Applied Science in Medical Coding and Insurance Billing Program (Data processing 105 and Health 150)

  • The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in the Medical Administrative Assistant Program (Data processing 105 and Health 150)

Registration for classes is now under way and anyone interested in taking the classes should contact the Advising Center at MSU Billings at 657-2240 or the Office of Admissions and Records at 657-2158. The deadline for application is March 9. Scholarships are available for students with financial need.
