Student Leadership Awards Decriptions and Judging Criteria

Student Organization of The Year

Celebrates a student organization that has accomplished its goals, has actively encouraged its members to participate in activities and events, and has demonstrated a commitment to the MSUB community. The Student Organization of the Year exemplifies involvement and leadership, meets the needs of the student body, and works to engage all Yellowjackets in its programming, service, and inclusion efforts.

Student Organization Member of The Year

Recognizes a member of a student organization who is committed to the overall growth and success of their organization. This individual regularly attends the organizations’ meetings and functions, takes an active leadership role within their organization, and positively promotes their organization
within the campus community.

Student Organization President of The Year

Honors a student organization president who has shown commitment to excellence by leading their organization to achieve their goals while providing support and encouragement for their members.

Emerging Student Leader of The Year

Recognizes a student who is becoming actively involved in campus activities and organizations for the first time. This student has demonstrated the ability to lead others and has shown an emerging commitment to MSUB.

Student Organization Event of The Year

Celebrates an outstanding student-led program, event, workshop, or initiative meant to engage the MSUB community. The Event of the Year resulted in discussion, excitement, or shed light on an important topic. This event was well-organized, well-publicized, and had a positive impact on attendees.

Student Organization Advisor of The Year

Honors a faculty or staff advisor of a student organization on campus who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in his/her role through participation, support, and a commitment to the ideals of the organization.

Social Justice Award

Celebrates a student or student organization who has: actively advocated for an underrepresented population through their words and actions; has led conversations, hosted programs/events, or has served as a role model for actively engaging in social justice work; and/or has demonstrated dedication to uplifting equity and inclusion initiatives by using their voice to create positive change.

Service Sting Award

Recognizes a student who has completed service in their on- or off-campus community with a focus on assisting under-resourced and underprivileged groups. This individual will have completed eligible service with a high level of compassion and dedication to their chosen cause or causes.

Unsung Hero

This award will be presented to a member of the MSUB campus community who has supported one or more student organization behind the scenes to ensure their success. Nominees may not be current student organization members or advisors.

 

Criteria above will be shared with judges whose submission scores will be averaged to determine the winner in each category. Only students with a 2.5 cumulative GPA (minimum) will be considered for individual awards in order to recognize the importance of academic achievement as a valued component of student leadership.

Deadline

The deadline to submit nominations is Monday, March 8 at 5pm.
