Auditions, Scholarships & Activities
Montana State University Billings invites high school juniors and seniors, as well as transfer students to audition for placement and scholarships. Scholarships are available for students that declare music as their major and are awarded on the basis of merit and the recommendations of the music faculty. We recommend that scholarship auditions be scheduled no later than the end of February prior to the academic year for which you intend to enroll. Pep Band performs at all home games (30 per season). The band plays the standard pep band literature but uses the opportunity to gain insights into the demanding performance practices of today’s popular music styles. Members of the Basketball Pep Band are paid for each game they play.
Student organizations active in the Department of Music include:
Student club that learns and performs vocal jazz, pop, and contemporary music. Performances include MSU Billings concerts, private events, local clubs, and regional jazz festivals
National Association for Music Educators (NAfME)
National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) promotes dedication to excellence in music education as well as its continued inclusion as part of the core curriculum in schools across the United States.
For promoting the performance and education of the many styles of Jazz in the University and community. Produces a jazz festival every February to showcase the college ensembles performing with national jazz artists.
Percussion Club is a special interest organization the purpose of which is to promote percussion at MSU Billings and in the Billings community. Percussion Club is also the controlling organization for ASMSU Billings student funds used to promote percussion and supplemental educational activities that come under the category of percussion.
