The Northcutt Steele Gallery at MSU Billings is pleased to present Rapid Expansion, an exhibition of mixed-media works by Cody, Wyoming-based artist, Rebecca Weed. The exhibition opens January 16 and remains on view through February 13. The gallery is located on the 1st floor of the Liberal Arts Building on MSUB campus.

An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Thursday, January 16 from 4:30pm to 7pm. A conversation with the artist begins at 5:30pm. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Rapid Expansion offers a series of narrative, often autobiographical, works exploring the physical and symbolic horizon and the means by which they shape experiences, stories, and forms of the Western landscape. “Growing up in Wyoming,” Weed notes, “I was always aware of the horizon. This long view affected my visual aesthetic in many ways.”

Rebecca Weed received her BA in fine arts with a focus in painting from Montana State University Billings in 2006. From there she took a circuitous, not-very-art-filled route to Missoula, MT, where she received her MFA in painting from University of Montana in 2011.

Weed has exhibited throughout the US and internationally. Currently she teaches at various institutions, organizes and supports community arts education in her hometown of Cody and the surrounding area, spends a lot of time looking at things like bleached skulls, horny toads, and cloud formations, and draws every day.
