January 16- February 13, 2014

Annie Strader and Matthew Weedman’s collaborative digital videos, photography, and installation work will be on display in their exhibition, Vanishing Methods, at Northcutt Steele Gallery on the MSU Billings campus, January 16 through February 13.

Vanishing Methods brings together multi-media works that examine how personal histories and issues of traditional feminine/masculine gender roles become embedded in domestic objects, materials, images, and sounds. Strader and Weedman create works that suggest a longing for meaningful connections between psychological and material realms. Their work uncovers a desire, deeply rooted in the American psyche, for transcendence from the mundane everyday world through objects and images that inhabit the space between the real and the imagined. In Vanishing Methods the artists utilize references to domestic architecture and objects to release the personal and collective residues they hold and to explore notions of erasure and rebirth through acts of destruction or disappearance.

Annie Strader received her MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is an active member of The Bridge Club, a visual and performance art collaborative that produces interdisciplinary installation, video, live performance and digital media works that are site- and context- specific and she has exhibited at The Athens Institute for Contemporary Art; Athens, GA, The Roy G Biv Gallery; Columbus, OH, The Hartnett Gallery; Rochester, NY and The Sculpture Center; Cleveland, OH. Weedman holds a BA in Film Studies and Studio Art and an MFA in Sculpture from The University of Colorado at Boulder. He teaches photography and multi-media courses in the Art Department at Sam Houston State University. For more information visit: http://anniestrader.com/.
