MSUB showcases Holiday classics in four concerts

MSU BILLINGS NEWS—The MSU Billings Department of Music is presenting four holiday music ensembles this week. The concerts feature MSUB students and faculty with community members.

 

Yesterday at 7:30 p.m., the MSUB Brass Ensemble performed with the MSU Billings Percussion Ensemble for a presentation of several Christmas classics to ring in the holiday season. The Brass Ensemble featured works from Bach, Couperin, music from New Orleans, and Christmas classics under the direction of Professor John Roberts. The Percussion Ensemble performed works by Novotney and Zivkovic as directed by Adjunct Faculty Luke Kestner.

 

The Chamber Singers and MSUB University Choir will perform “The Holiday Spirit is Upon Us”, a concert of holiday music, today at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Associate Professor Doug Nagel, the concert will feature selections from Thompson, Bach, Dawson, Kyr, Byrd, Gibbons, and more. Jackets Only, a student-led acapella ensemble, will also present selections. Pianist Stephanie Davis will accompany the singers.

 

On Thursday, the MSUB Guitar Ensemble will showcase their talents and holiday cheer in a performance held at 7:30 p.m. The concert will include exciting renditions of classical, jazz, and rock music from guitars and bass. The Guitar Ensemble is led by Adjunct Faculty Elizabeth Adcock.

 

All student performances are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. MSUB students, staff, and faculty are admitted free with current I.D.

 

To round out the performances, the Billings Brass as part of the Yellowstone Chamber Players 2018- 2019 season, will play their annual holiday concert on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Billings Brass is comprised of MSUB Professors Dr. Mark Fenderson and John Roberts, alongside community members Aaron Roberts, John Dutton, and Aaron Schendel. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. MSUB students, staff, and faculty are admitted free with current I.D.

 

All concerts are open to the public and held in Cisel Recital Hall on the MSUB University campus.
