MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Florence M. Garcia, Ed.D. has been appointed as Interim Dean of City College at MSU Billings effective September 5, 2018. Garcia replaces Elizabeth Fullon who is stepping down from the role due to a health condition.
Garcia has been serving as Assistant Dean of City College since 2014. She will also continue her recently-appointed role as Native American Student Success Services Coordinator while fulfilling her new duties as Interim Dean.
An alumna of Eastern Montana College and Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., Garcia received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from what is today known as MSU Billings; she received her education doctorate degree from MSU Bozeman. She previously served in several positions at Fort Peck Community College in Poplar, Mont., including two years as the college’s president. Garcia was also previously the director of TRiO Student Support Services at MSU Bozeman and has also been a faculty member at Fort Peck Community College, MSU Bozeman and MSU Billings.
An open search began earlier this year for a permanent Dean. The university plans to conclude the search this fall. MSUB has partnered with Myers McRae, a search firm that helps colleges and universities select leaders.
