MSU Billings faculty member appointed to State Historic Review Board

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Tim Urbaniak, who teaches in the drafting and design technology program at the Montana State University Billings College of Technology, has been appointed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer to serve as a representative on the State Historic Preservation Review Board.

Members of the review board serve as advocates for historic preservation in Montana. As a board, the entity works to:

• Review National Register nominations and nomination appeals.
• Review and provide advice about the state’s Comprehensive Statewide Historic Preservation Plan and the State’s Annual Historic Preservation Fund Grant program.
• Provide general advice and guidance to the State Historic Preservation Officer.

While providing drafting and design technology education to his students is paramount, Urbaniak also ties in his interest with history and preservation into class projects. Over the past few years, students have used different technologies to provide architectural and historic data to various civic and public entities, including providing three-dimensional scans of historic buildings and archeological sites.

Urbaniak will serve as a public representative on the historic review board. His term expires in October 2015.
