MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The Montana State University Billings Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jim Robertson, will present its Fall Semester Concert on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Cisel Recital Hall on the MSU Billings main campus.

 

Admission for the concert, which highlights music from different jazz eras, is $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for all MSU Billings faculty, staff and students. Parking is available free during the evening adjacent to the Cisel Recital Hall.

 

Selected music for the concert includes tunes from previous jazz eras as well as current settings of jazz classic favorites. They include Thelonious Monk’s “Well You Needn’t.” Walt Donaldson’s “My Buddy,” Ann Ronnell’s “Willow Weep for Me,” Charlie Parker’s “Yardbird Suite” and Miles Davis’ “Four.”

 

Soloists for the night include alto saxophonist Michael Montoya, from Billings, and tenor saxophonist Mary Ryan, also from Billings. Trumpet soloists are Adam Wetzel of Billings, Cory Lovee of Ekalaka, Melody Wittman from Huntley Project and Colin Welsh from Buffalo, Wyo. Trombone soloists are Kirk Visser of Shepherd, David Florian of Miles City and Lauren Clark from Hulett, Wyo. Rhythm section soloists are pianist Alyssa Conrad of Shepherd, drummers J.T. Dell from Billings and Mike Spence of Shepherd and guitarist Simon Wiesner of Laurel.
