We are very excited for you to start your academic career at Montana State University Billings! Below are your next steps to register for fall classes.

Step 1: RSVP for a Freshman Registration Session

 

Registration sessions are held at the University and City College campuses.
Two sessions are offered for each date, AM sessions held from 9-Noon or PM sessions held from 1-4pm

Submit transcripts, immunization records and any advanced placement exams

Official Transcripts
Send in your official high school and any previous college transcripts—these are your ticket to meeting with an academic advisor and registering for Fall classes.

Please send all official transcripts to the Office of Admissions. Official transcripts may be sent through parchment (electronically) or delivered to our office in a sealed envelope.

Immunization Records:
Immunization records are often included on your high school transcripts. To see the requirements for MMR and Rubella, or to submit an exemption form, click here.

Live too far from Billings, or can’t make any of our registration sessions work? Please contact our advising office after May 16th to for assistance with your registration appointment.

Step 2: RSVP for New Student Orientation | July  13-14, 2026
(Spring Term Orientation RSVP's open in December)


Orientation will ensure you and your family/supporters are connected to the campus, meet new friends, explore the Billings community, and experience life as a 'Jacket! RSVP'S CLOSE ON SUNDAY, JULY 6TH AT 5PM. If you would like to RSVP after this date, please call our office.

All students are highly encouraged to attend a Registration Session prior to attending New Student Orientation.

This two day event is designed to welcome you as a new student and provides meaningful sessions, timely information, and activities where you'll meet new Yellowjackets, explore student service programs, master the art of navigating campus programs, preview college clubs and organizations, and participate in workshops that prepare you for your first year at MSU Billings. Parents and supporters are welcome to attend New Student Orientation as we have specialized sessions just for them!

  • Learn how to successfully transition to life at MSUB
  • Engage with University services and resources
  • Connect with other incoming Yellowjackets
  • Connect with MSUB staff and Academic Advisors
  • Apply for specialized campus programs and student support services early
  • Engage in specialized sessions and workshops that will prepare you for the first day of classes


Step 3: Complete your FREE application for Federal Aid!


Contact the Financial Aid Office for one-to-one support on completing your application. Over 92% of MSUB first-time students who are full-time receive free grants and/or scholarships!

Step 4: Secure your home at MSUB!

Living on Campus? Let’s Get You Settled!
Yellowjackets planning to live on campus—don’t forget to secure your space! Single rooms, shared rooms, and family housing options are available through our Housing & Residential Life website.

Commuting to MSUB University or City College?
If you plan to live off campus in the local community, be sure to submit your housing waiver form.

Note: First-year students over the age of 21 and transfer students are not required to complete a housing exemption form.


Step 5: Save the Date for Fall Kickoff | Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Don’t Miss the BIGGEST Event of the Year!
Join us at the Fall Kickoff to meet your professors, connect with City College and University campus staff, and start building friendships with fellow new Yellowjackets.

Wear your event tee and connect with other students and faculty from your college, and dive into a day packed with free giveaways, food trucks, student clubs, and interactive activities led by MSUB professors and campus programs.

Be one of the first 400 students to pre-register and you’ll unlock VIP access!
Pick up your Kickoff Pack on move-in day (August 30), which includes *free food truck tickets, your event t-shirt, and more!
