MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana State University Billings is gearing up to welcome incoming students to campus! New Yellowjackets attending both the university and City College will be welcomed to campus over the coming months by Orientation Peer Leaders, current students, faculty, and staff. Orientations have been scheduled for new, adult, and transfer students.

MSU Billings has worked to develop a first-year orientation program that prepares students entering the university and City College and creates a memorable experience. There are three components to the first-year students’ orientation program: the Virtual Hive, the On-Campus Orientation, and the Virtual Hive Post-Orientation.

  • The Virtual Hive is completed in Desire2Learn (D2L), the e-Learning site of MSU Billings, prior to arriving at the On-Campus Orientation. During this portion of the orientation, students gain knowledge about services and programs found on campus and begin to connect with other students.
  • At the On-Campus Orientation, students come visit campus for two days and spend a night in the residence halls. Incoming freshmen are immersed in campus life and get to meet face-to-face with current students, faculty and staff, as well as get to know fellow freshmen. Students also take time to register for fall classes during this portion of orientation. This is an engaging part of the orientation experience where students are able to learn more about the college experience and life on the MSU Billings campuses.
  • The Virtual Hive Post-Orientation is completed following the On-Campus Orientation. During this process, students learn additional information in D2L to help them transition successfully into college and prepare to start classes in the fall.

Four On-Campus Overnight Orientation dates are planned for the summer:

  • June 7th-8th
  • June 21st-22nd
  • July 12th-13th
  • August 2nd-3rd

The Adult and Transfer Learner Orientations will be held on August 14th and August 17th

There is still time to get signed up for orientations this summer. More information about any of the orientations and links to register online for the summer orientations detailed above can be found here.

This year, an Orientation Information Session tabling event will be held with Advising & Career Services prior to the first overnight orientation. This tabling event is scheduled for May 31 and is designed for anyone on campus to stop by and learn more about the upcoming orientations. More information about the tabling is located on the Master Calendar.

The MSU Billings community is excited to welcome new Yellowjackets to campus during these orientation events!

Any questions about getting started at MSU Billings can be directed to the New Student Services office at 406-657-2880.
