MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — City College at Montana State University Billings will host a Pharmacy Technician information session on March 5 at 5:30 p.m. for anyone who is interested in earning their Pharmacy Technician certificate. It will be held at the Billings Clinic Health Conference Center foyer (across from the cafeteria in the main hospital building).

This session will allow attendees to look into this career and see if it would be a good fit for them. “The industry is looking for well-qualified, trained technicians who will meet industry requirements,” commented Dean of City College Dr. Cliff Coppersmith.

Students can now earn a Pharmacy Technician Certificate through City College at MSUB. This is a two-semester program that includes online lectures as well as lab work at City College.

“This program prepares students for positions working under the supervision of a licensed and registered pharmacist in institutional or retail settings,” shared Stephanie Cowen, director of student services at City College.

As the Pharmacy Technician profession continues to grow, there is an increasing demand for graduates with this degree. “Typical job duties include dispensing prescription drugs and other medical devices to patients and instructing on their use, as well as administrative duties such as reviewing prescription requests to ensure correct medications are provided and payment is received,” shared Lonnye Finneman, Director of Pharmacy at St. Vincent Healthcare.

From 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., students will have the opportunity to meet withindustry professionals from Billings Clinic and St. Vincent Healthcare as well as City College staff to learn more about becoming a pharmacy technician. They will focus on highlighting the career and educational opportunities that are available in this profession.

From 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., there will be a tour of Billings Clinic’s inpatient and outpatient pharmacy areas. This will allow attendees to get a feel for the job and what working at Billings Clinic would be like.

This event is free to attend and refreshments will be provided. RSVP is not required.
