MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The Music Department at Montana State University Billings will host statewide singing auditions for the Montana Chapter of The National Association of Teachers of Singing at Cisel Music Hall this weekend, Nov. 3-4.

Doug Nagel, assistant professor of music at MSU Billings and organizer of the event, said the auditions are not meant to be a competition, but a way for young talented singers with bigger aspirations to showcase their talent and get expert advice. Students ranging in ages of 13-27 can sing in different divisions, including Art Song, Opera/Oratorio and Musical Theater Songbook. Each singer gets 10 minutes to perform in English and Foreign Language repertoire.

The first round is Saturday, Nov. 3 from 2-8 p.m. in Cisel Hall and the finals, including a master class with guest clinician Tod Fitzpatrick of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, are Sunday, Nov. 4 in from 1-3 p.m., also in Cisel Hall. Parking is free on campus in all lots during the weekend. All auditions are free of charge and open to the public.

For more information, contact Nagel, a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the American Choral Directors Association, at 657-2048 or by e-mail at douglas.nagel@msubillings.edu.
