922 students to receive undergraduate, graduate diplomas at April 30 ceremony

 

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana State University Billings faculty, staff and students are now putting the finishing touches on the 2010-11 academic year. The coming week culminates with convocations and academic awards ceremonies on April 28 and April 29 and commencement ceremonies on Saturday, April 30.

 

two graduates at MSU Billings commencement ceremonies Spring 2010The five academic colleges at MSU Billings will host individual convocations on Thursday and Friday, April 28-29 recognizing students for academic achievement and service within their major fields of study. Undergraduates who will be graduating with honors during the MSU Billings Commencement ceremony on Saturday, April 30, will receive honor cords during their college’s convocation ceremony.  Top graduate students in three colleges will also be recognized.

 

Commencement ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at 10 a.m. in Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark with undergraduate and graduate diplomas given to 922 students.

 

This is first MSU Billings-related event at the arena since it was devastated by a tornado in June 2010. Some construction still exists at the arena. Therefore, students are encouraged to enter the lower arena on the southeastern corner of the building. Parents, visitors and guests are urged to enter the arena seating area on the upper level on the western edge.  Anyone with mobility issues can be dropped off at the doors and special handicapped parking areas will be designated.

 

The commencement speaker this year is Dr. Waded Cruzado, President of Montana State University in Bozeman.

All events are free and open to the public.

  • Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Technology will be on Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m. in the College of Technology’s Health Sciences Building, with a welcome by Interim Dean Vern Gagnon. The College of Technology will confer 258 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday.

  • Convocation for the MSU BillingsCollege of Allied Health Professions will be on Friday, April 29, at 9 a.m., in Cisel Recital Hall, with a welcome by Dr. Diane Duin, dean of the College of Allied Health Professions. The College of Allied Health Professions will confer 109 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, including 38 master’s degrees. 

  • Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Business will be on Friday, April 29, at 11:30 a.m. in Cisel Recital Hall, with a welcome by Dr. Tim Wilkinson, interim dean of the College of Business. The College of Business will confer 129 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday.

  • Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Arts and Sciences will be on Friday, April 29, at 2 p.m., in Petro Theatre, with a welcome by Dr. Tasneem Khaleel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences will confer 288 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, including 29 master’s degrees.

  • Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Education will be on Friday, April 29, at 4 p.m., in the Student Union Building Ballroom, with a welcome by Dr. Mary Susan Fishbaugh, dean of the College of Education.  The College of Education will confer 138 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, including 63 master’s degrees.
