Student and Scholar Support Services
All international students and faculty scholars are encouraged to take advantage of a number of services which are provided on campus, including:
- Airport pickup and community transportation
- Housing and food services
- International students and scholars coordinator
- Health insurance and health services
- Academic advising

Registration form is required to be turned in at the beginning of every semester. Please print and fill out the form and make sure to sign on the bottom.
Travel form is required to be turned in when a student is traveling outside of Billings. Please print and fill out the form and make sure to sign on the bottom. (Athletes please attach schedule)
Please also make sure to get signatures for your I-20 or DS-2019 when traveling outside of United States.
International students do have opportunities to be employed and earn money. Please contact Office of International Studies Office to make an appointment with the program specialist Karla Wickens to discuss details.
On campus employment
Students could apply for on campus positions. Places to look for openings: library, dorms, I.T., cafeteria, tutoring at Academic Support Center, gym. When speaking with potential employers make sure to clarify it needs to be student work.
Off campus employment (CPT/OPT)
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
CPT is work authorization which allows a student to work in a job directly related to the student‘s major area of study before degree completion. Position must be needed to complete degree i.e. internship position required for graduation.
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
OPT is work authorization which allows a student to work in a job directly related to the student‘s major area of study either before or after degree completion. The fair majority of students use OPT to work after degree completion.
Social Security Number
In order to work in the U.S., even on campus, you need a Social Security number. The Social Security Administration will only assign Social Security numbers to students with documentation certifying that they have an employment offer.

In most instances, international students and scholars in nonimmigrant visa classifications must pay city, state and federal taxes if employed in the United States. In certain instances they may be exempted because of tax treaty between the United States and their home country, or if their employment can be considered to be a fellowship, as defined by the IRS.
Office of International Studies Office provide free expert tax help every season. Please feel free to contact the office for questions.
Banking & Cell Phone
Office of International Studies Office help students set up local bank accounts and cell phone services as needed. Please contact us to make an appointment.
International students are able to take local driver’s license written test and road test to acquire driver’s license. Please contact the office for testing review materials or more questions to be answered.
