Orientation is an introduction to college life at Montana State University Billings. 

This orientation experience will connect you with students, faculty, and staff.  Traditional Freshmen ages 18-21 will also register for your fall courses during this time. Adult Learners and transfer students will want to set up an advising/registration appointment with one of our advising offices prior to attending orientation, call: University Campus Advising (406) 657-2240 or City College Advising (406) 247-3007.

The Orientation program provides an important campus experience including both academics and student life. In addition to academic advising, class registration, and workshops.

The deadline for orientation registration is one week prior to the scheduled session. Orientation sessions have limited space. Reserve your orientation date now. Complete the registration form online by selecting the date you wish to sign up for below:

Parent and Family Orientation    

MSU Billings Values Yellowjacket Parents and Supporters and we have a virtual program just for you. Virtual Supporter Orientation will be offered throughout the summer.

Yes, all new freshmen are required to attend orientation. You must select the format in which you attend on campus or online. 

Yes, there is a $30 charge for accommodations and meals that will be added to your fall statement.

Due to COVID- 19 Guests will be limited for Orientation this year. Guests will be limited to 2 per student.  There is a $20 program fee per parent or guest. 

It is strongly encouraged, but not required. We will be offering a variety of workshops including information specifically for parents and families. You will have your fill of great food, fun times, and important information as well as have face-to-face meetings with key administrators, faculty, and staff who will be working for your student’s success every day. We highly encourage all participants to stay overnight in the residence halls. Whether you plan to live on campus or not, this will provide an opportunity to meet your future peers while having a lot of fun!  If you are not able to stay overnight, please call us at (406) 657-2240 or email: admissions@msubillings.edu

We hope to see all students at orientation. However, if you live in a state that does not neighbor Montana, you are exempt from attending the summer Freshman Orientation in person and can select to attend the Virtual Orientation.

There will be a lot of walking so you will want to bring comfortable shoes. Also bring a photo ID, items for your overnight stay; pillow, sleeping bag or linens, clothes, toiletries, etc.

Individuals who have been out of high school or completed their HiSet over three years ago will be encouraged to take the Accuplacer placement test to assist with placement into English, reading, math and some program courses. Please note that there is a fee ($7.50 or $15) associated with the Accuplacer test(s), pending on which test(s) are taken.

Payment for orientation fees will be arranged at check-in and added to your fall statement. Please do not send money before.

No, you will not have to pay for parking during Orientation. Parking permits are required to park on campus.  You will be able to park in the north student lot or parking garage without a permit during your orientation program.  You will be required to have a visitor or student parking permit for other days that you will be parking on campus.  For more information on parking permits, you may go to http://www.msubillings.edu/police/parkinginfo.htm
