Yellowjackets Get Four Named to GNAC All-Star List
SPOKANE, Wash. – Four Montana State Billings softball players earned postseason awards as Kaycee Hoffman, Stevie Howard, Kelly Parsons and Lindsey Trenary were all named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Star team, the conference office announced Monday. Parsons was a repeat honoree on the list, while Hoffman, Howard and Trenary all earned their first honor.
“I’m really proud of these girls for their accomplishments this season,” said head coach Anthony Stone. “Although we didn’t have the season we were hoping for, these girls did some great things for us regardless, and I’m very happy for them. It’s a nice sendoff for Stevie to make first team, and the fact the other 3 are returning is something we are certainly looking forward to.”
Hoffman, Howard and Parsons were all named to the first team, while Trenary picked up a nod as honorable mention. Parsons finished the season with a .246 average; she had 18 runs and 34 RBIs with eight home runs and led the team in walks with 23.
As a juco transfer, Hoffman led the team with 10 home runs this season and had the second best batting average on the team (.369). Howard finished her senior season fourth on the team in batting average with a .305 and was first in stolen bases with 16. Trenary came back this season to go 13-14 on the year with a 4.25 ERA and had a team-leading 107 strikeouts.
Central Washington outfielder Danielle Monson and pitcher Lauren Hadenfeld were selected as the GNAC Softball Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, as the Wildcats nearly made a clean sweep of the special awards on the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-star team.
Gary Frederick, who coached Central Washington to a school-record 37 victories, was selected GNAC Coach of the Year and CWU first baseman Kelsey Haupert was voted the Newcomer of the Year. The only award that eluded the playoff-bound Wildcats was the Freshman of the Year award. Saint Martin’s Joslyn Eugenio was a unanimous winner for that award.
Central Washington led the all-star selections placing five players on the first team and one on the second team. Two of its first-team selections – Monson and Hadenfeld - were unanimous. Also earning unanimous selection to the first team was Western Oregon shortstop Tyler Sutherland and Eugenio.
Five players were repeat selections, including Parsons, Monson, Western Oregon shortstop Tyler Sutherland, and outfielders Jessica Hallmark of Western Oregon and Michelle Wrigley of Western Washington. Hallmark and Wrigley were first team picks for the third year in a row.
