14 Yellowjackets Named to GNAC Soccer Academic Team

SPOKANE, Wash. – 14 Montana State Billings men’s and women’s soccer players have been selected for the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Soccer Academic All-Star Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.  In addition, the Yellowjackets had the most selections combined of any school in the conference.

Overall, a total of 69 student-athletes were named to the team – 52 women and 17 men.  On the women’s side, MSUB had seven selected which was fourth-most behind Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene with eight and nine from Seattle Pacific and Central Washington. 

Leading the way one the women’s side was sophomore Susana Contreras of Northwest Nazarene and Kelsey Jenkins of Seattle Pacific as both players have 3.97 cumulative grade point averages. 

The Yellowjackets had four repeat selections in Lauren Anderson, (3.72), Samantha Boehm (3.62), Carly Valentine (3.57) and Kari Foreman (3.53).  Senior Chelsea Libby is one of 10 student-athletes named to the team for the third time with a 3.45 average.  Caitlin Differding (3.30) and Kelly Ross (3.25) are making their first appearance.

On the men’s side, MSUB led the way with a total of seven selections for the third year in a row.  Andy Wolverton of Seattle Pacific led the way with the top GPA at a 3.97 average.  MSUB senior, Tom Milroy, has the second highest GPA at a 3.86 average in heath and human performance.  He, along with Sam Charles (3.60) and Jarred Weisen (3.32), are three-time selections.  Chris Andre (3.44) is a repeat selection, while James Henry (3.70), Garion Holian (3.30) and Tyler Moriarty (3.20) are first time selections.

To be eligible for the GNAC academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
