MSU BILLINGS NEWS—Montana State University Billings has named Roberto Nava, Ph.D., as the dean of the College of Education (COE).

Currently serving as the associate dean of Metropolitan State University of Denver, Nava previously was the director of Teacher Education and an associate professor at Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon.

Nava holds a Ph.D. in education from Oregon State University in addition to a master’s degree in education from George Fox University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Oregon State University.

“Dr. Nava will continue the legacy left by Dr. Mary Susan Fishbaugh in the College of Education,” said MSU Billings Provost Melinda Arnold. “Under his leadership, we look forward to growth and expansion of the college and to assisting rural and all teachers in Montana and beyond.”

Members of the search committee for the dean of the COE were Austin Bennett, Natalie Bohlmann, Susan Gregory, Christopher Harrison, Tina Hoagland, Kathy Holt, Brenda Koch and Rachel Waller. The chair was Christine Shearer.

Nava will officially begin serving as dean on July 29. He will be taking over the role from Mary Susan Fishbaugh who announced her retirement earlier this year.
