MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — In the market for a home? Then City College at Montana State University Billings has an offer for you.

The school is now accepting sealed bids, through May 19, for the purchase of a relocatable house constructed by the Construction and Carpentry class.

“This yearly project really gives students the hands-on experience they need so they are ready to enter the workforce and many go on to run their own contracting business,” said Instructor Terry Madtson.

Sealed bids will be received at the MSU Billings Purchasing Department, located at 1500 University Drive, until 2:00 pm May 19.

A minimum bid of $69,000 is required.

The modular style house is 1400 square feet with 28 ft. x 50 ft. dimensions, consisting of the bedrooms, 1+¾ baths, open kitchen, dining room/living room with a vaulted ceiling.

Francisco Saldivar, department chair for Business Construction and Energy Technology Programs said the sale of the home is how the program is funded.

“This sale is vital to the program’s sustainability at MSUB,” Saldivar said. “We use the money from the sale to buy the materials for the next house. Without the sale, we would not be able to fund the construction of the next house. Any proceeds above the cost of materials is used to replace worn tools and equipment or allows the program to build a nicer home the next academic year.”

The home is currently at City College, at 3803 Central Avenue and tours are available by appointment by contacting Stacey Teague at 247-3008.

An Official Bid Form must be submitted: Contact the MSU Billings Business Office/Purchasing Department (in the Basement of McMullen Hall) at 657-2151 for additional information and an official bid form. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud on May 19, 2017 at 2p.m.
