MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Once again, Montana State University Billings will be encircling McMullen Hall with non-perishable food in its annual Cans Around McMullen.

Last year, the food drive brought in 2,089 cans or containers totaling 1,564 pounds. This year, the items collected will be shared with the Yellowjacket Emergency Pantry and Family Service, Inc., of Billings.

Not only does the yearly drive help end hunger on campus and the community, it is a spirited competition between University departments.

traveling trophy and certificate for Cans Around McMullenFacility Services is hoping to retain the traveling trophy and its rivalry with the MSU Billings Foundation going.

“We look forward to keeping the trophy for another year,” said Facility Services Director Jason McGimpsey.

University departments can take their food items to the lawn in between the SUB and McMullen. The Office for Community Involvement will have a table set-up. If the weather does not cooperate, the drop-off location will be at the SUB Atrium.

City College is encouraged to participate in the drive and food collection tubs will be in the Technology Building commons area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s event is special, and MSUB thanks our community partners, Stockman Bank and Connoisseur Media, that have gotten involved and sponsored an ongoing food drive. The donated items will be given to MSUB to help with its Cans Around McMullen effort.

Community members can donate non-perishable food items until April 18 at any Stockman Bank branch in Billings.

Local radio personality Scott Fredericks, with Connoisseur Media, will be doing a live broadcast on campus the day of the drive.

“Connoisseur Media has a strong relationship with MSU Billings and this part of our commitment to giving back and reaching out the community,” Fredericks said.
