MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Marshall Pluhar, a vocal music education major at Montana State University Billings, will be presenting his Senior Recital to fulfill the requirements of his degree on April 13, 2013 at 7:30 pm in the Cisel Recital Hall on the campus of MSUB. He will be performing compositions of Brahms, Ralph Vaugh Williams, Ferrari, and Schubert along with selections from the operas of Verdi’s La traviata, Wagner’s Tannhauser, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Gounod’s Faust. The recital is free and open to the public and will also feature vocalists Gavin Askin, Rachel Kathleen Weitz, Kelly Deiling, Charli Mader, and pianist Sandi Rabas, who will be accompanying Marshall and his colleagues.
Marshall began his vocal career at Custer County District High School in Miles City where he performed three years in the CCDHS Chorale. During this time, he toured with the Chorale to the nation’s capital in Washington D.C. in 2007 and to New York in 2005 where he and his fellow choristers performed Mozart’s Solemn Vespers on stage at Carnegie Hall with an assortment of other high school choirs throughout the nation. He also performed in many district and state music festivals while in high school as well, being judged on a number of solo and ensemble performances.
After high school, Marshall started perusing a degree in both Music and Math education at MSUB. Under his voice teacher, Doug Nagel, he competed in the Montana NATS competition in the fall of 2012 and qualified for famous opera singer Pamela South’s masterclass which was held on the campus of Rocky Mountain College on March 20. After college, Marshall plans to start his teaching career and open his own voice studio.
