Orientation sessions begin for MSU Billings

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — New and transfer students to Montana State University Billings for the 2008-09 academic year can register for classes and get a full slate of advising during orientation sessions beginning this month.

Shelly Andersen, director of New Student Services at MSU Billings, said the orientation sessions offer first-time or transfer students and their parents an opportunity to get acquainted with MSU Billings and its resources in a relaxed atmosphere.

During orientation, students will have the opportunity to:

• Take placement tests for English and Math (Compass)
• Meet with an academic advisor to register for classes and discuss your major program worksheet
• Tour the campus
• Meet with other new students
• Meet our faculty and staff
• Discover opportunities to get involved on campus

In addition, parents can attend a “Parents in Transition” program that shares tips and advice on handling their child’s evolution from home to college life.

There are a variety of dates make attending new student orientation convenient. Students and their parents can choose one of a variety of dates from May to August. Sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and separate orientation and registration sessions will take place at the MSU Billings College of Technology.

Orientation on the MSU Billings main campus will take place on the following dates:

• Wednesday, May 21
• Friday, May 30
• Tuesday, June 3
• Friday, June 6
• Friday, June 20
• Wednesday, June 25
• Thursday, July 17
• Tuesday, July 29
• Friday, Aug. 8
• Friday, Aug. 15
• Friday, Aug. 22

A variety of orientation and registration sessions are set for the MSU Billings COT.  COT registration sessions are: 

Morning sessions (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

• May 20, 22, 28, 
• June 4, 11, 17, 19, 27
• July 10, 16, 18, 22, 23, 30
• August 1, 5, 12, 14

Afternoon sessions (1-5 p.m.)

• May 29
• June 5, 9
• July 8, 14
• Aug. 4, 6, 18

Evening sessions (5-9 p.m.)

• June 12, 24
• July 24

MSU Billings COT orientation dates are:

Morning sessions (8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)

• Aug. 21, 25
• Sept. 2

An afternoon session (12:30-5 p.m.) has been scheduled for Aug. 19 and an evening COT orientation (5-9 p.m.) has been scheduled for Aug. 27.

All new students are required to attend an orientation session and should be sure to fill out an orientation registration form. Those forms can be found online:
