Student Opportunity Services/TRIO
SOS is a program of academic support federally funded by the Department of Education, to help students reach their academic goals. To be eligible, students must meet at least one of the following requirements: low-income, first generation (parents do not have college degrees), or have a documented physical or learning disability. SOS offers a variety of services, including:
- Mentoring
- Study Groups/Tutoring
- Workshops
- Access to Cultural Events
- Student Opportunity Services Activities Club (SOSAC)
- Information regarding financial aid, scheduling classes, graduate school, and more!
Student Opportunity Services/TRIO hires students for the following positions:
MENTORS: A mentor is a "student resource center" and able to share academic support with eligible students. Former or current SOS students who have completed one year with SOS and who understand the challenges students encounter are encouraged to apply to be a mentor. Student interns and Graduate Assistants are also encouraged to apply.
TUTORS: Register as a tutor with Student Opportunity Services/TRIO if you have:
- A helpful, upbeat attitude and good "teaching" skills.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.
- A GPA of 3.00 or higher in classes you tutor.
- A faculty member willing to sign a recommendation card for you.
OFFICE AIDE: Students who have workstudy and would like to work in an office setting or have experience working in an office setting are encouraged to apply. Duties include greeting students, answering phones, data entry, filing, and other office procedures.
