About
TRIO Student Support Services offers individualized tutoring services designed for program participants. This opportunity can help you gain a better understanding of your learning and the learning process while developing independent learning skills. These services are provided in a quiet, caring environment which maximizes your learning opportunity.
TRIO SSS tutors have ongoing opportunities for professional development to increase and improve their skills. Tutors must be knowledgeable about their area of study, but they also must show that they can explain the subject material clearly and patiently.
*Students must complete a “Tutor Request Form” each semester they are requesting a tutor. It is highly recommended that each Tutor Request Form be submitted before the first month of classes in fall and spring, and before 2 weeks into classes in summer sessions.
It is not so much tutoring that the mind needs, but clearer recognition and better use of what it already knows.

What was your major/program of study?
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. My dad wanted me to be an engineer, but a friend from church mentioned that I would make a great teacher because of my connection with people.
What inspired you to tutor at TRIO SSS?
I am inspired to work at TRIO SSS because students want help and are choosing to work with tutoring services—it is incredibly rewarding when students find that they can be successful in the areas they study.

I am majoring in Nursing at City College.
What inspired you to tutor at TRIO SSS?
I was inspired to become a tutor at TRIO SSS because I love what the program offers students, and I wanted to become an additional resource. I come up with many tricks that help me remember the material, and I wanted to share those tricks to help other students succeed.

- Easily accessible to request a tutor in-person or via online form.
- Services are free to all currently active participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. The TRIO SSS program is 100% federally funded.
- Meet with tutors on a regular schedule. Our approach is to offer students tutoring on a recurring basis to benefit from routine sessions, which enhances learning outcomes.
- Located in a private tutor room for individual tutoring sessions. Group tutoring sessions are also available.
- Tutors at TRIO SSS are patient, encouraging, and work well with students to explain educational material in simple language that anyone can understand.
Yes. You can request online tutoring when you complete a tutor request form. It can be accessed via Webex video conferencing.
