Tutoring
One of the main reasons SOS/TRiO exists!
We provide students with needed assistance for subjects
ranging from English to Biology to Stats. Students
who desire tutoring need to fill out a tutor request form and
turn it in to the SOS/TRiO office. If there are many students
requesting the same class, study groups will most likely
be formed.
Mentoring
Mentors are fellow successful students who
are here to help SOS/TRiO participants with guidance.
Mentors help problem solve, inform students of important
deadlines such as: scholarships and dropping classes,
but most importantly they assist students to advocate
for themselves. Students are required to have at
least three mentor visits per semester. Mentors
will also do mid-term grade checks to ensure students
are in good academic standing and on the road to
graduation.
Student Resources
Participants of SOS/TRiO have access to
resources such as: textbooks, calculators, and voice
recorders. Each of these resources may be checked
out by SOS/TRiO participants. There are also
computers that are open to students to use during office
hours along with various other resources and office
equipment.
Financial Advising
SOS/TRiO offers financial aid advisement and
assistance to assure that participants are offered
sufficient financial aid to meet their full financial
need. Two workshops are presented during both the
fall and spring Return to Learn classes. In the
spring SOS/TRiO presents a workshop to
students on scholarships. SOS/TRiO
provides financial aid advising to all SOS/TRiO
students.
Learning Workshops
Workshops are available to all SOS/TRiO
participants. Workshops are presented by SOS/TRiO
staff, mentors, the graduate assistant, and various
campus personnel. SOS/TRiO provides many workshops
for students and they are designed to help students
become familiar with topics related to academic success.
Some workshops offered through out each semester are:
note taking, test taking, time management, stress
management, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
Return to Learn
This special seminar is offered for one
credit and is targeted towards individuals who may be
non-traditional students. Return to Learn (A&SC
101, College Success Strategies) offers presentations
and activities that are focused on making the transition
to college pleasant, meaningful, and less stressful for
students who have been out of school for a period of
time, or adult learners. There are two seminars
that are offered per year, one at the beginning of each
semester.
