The meeting was
called to order at 4:00 p.m. in the Chancellor’s Conference Room.
I. ELETION OF CHAIR FOR 2012-2013

Chairperson, and Ying Wang seconded.

The April 4 meeting
minutes were accepted as presented.
II. ITEMS – FIRST READING
Item
30.d Teaching Minor in
Mathematics. Modification
of an existing program.
- Motion by Tom Dell, seconded by Brian Gurney to approve Item 30.d on first reading.
It was noted that the capstone is being removed from the minor as the
course has some requirements that minor students cannot meet. The minor is also very large, so reducing the
credits is a good idea.

Keith Edgerton,
History Department, stated that they have hired a new faculty member who
specializes in European history, so the Department is updating the European
courses. HSTA/HSTR 299 will be a pre-capstone course to help
students learn to write like historians.
Regarding Common Course Numbering, the title to HSTR 473 can be changed
as it is unique to MSUB. The new 299 is
also unique.

Motion by Tom Dell, seconded by Ying Wang to approve Items 41 and 41.a on first reading.
Patrick Hughes,
Health and Human Performance Department, stated that these two courses were
similar, so these changes differentiate the two. HHP 362 will be focused more for health and
human performance students, while HHP 462 will have a more allied health focus,
in order to serve the students better.

Classical Sociological Theory. Change

Joy Honea,
Department of Sociology, Political Science, Native American Studies and
Environmental Studies, stated that SOCI 318 was not really necessary as a prerequisite,
so they are removing it and adding the general course SOCI 101. The course description is also being
improved.

stated that this course should never have had a prerequisite, so this is a
clerical error being fixed.

Criminal Justice. Modification
to an existing program.

Motion by Brian Gurney, seconded by John Hoover to approve Item 43.b on first reading.
Joy Honea noted
that many of their students double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice, but
the two programs’ math requirements did not match up. This change updates the Criminal Justice
program so it matches Sociology. Dr.
Honea also noted that they just learned the Math Department will be deleting
some statistics courses, so Sociology and Criminal Justice will be back with
more changes later this fall.

Deadline for the 2013-2015 Undergraduate Catalog
It was agreed
that the deadline for paperwork to reach the UCC will be October 26, 2012.
