VI.       PROVOST REPORT

Copyright and Online Course Materials

Dr. Pagano will get the MSU-Bozeman online course policy to the Senators.  It was proposed as the new BOR policy, but now more discussion will take place.

Strategic Plan

Provost Pagano reported that the task force held a mini-retreat October 12 to address all the comments received and decide what to do with each.  During the course of that meeting, the idea of using the “MSUB Advantage,” a marketing campaign from last summer, as the overall theme of the document arose.  Dan Carter, Director of University and Governmental Relations, updated the document to include references to the MSUB Advantage.  The revised document was posted yesterday and the futureu committee will have a week to review it before Provost Pagano and Chancellor Groseth present it to the MSU leadership in Bozeman.  The strategic plan will go to the BOR in January for information only.  However, the BOR will see our core themes for approval in January.  They are approving the core themes because NWCCU currently approves them, and the BOR felt they should as well.

VII.     COMMITTEE REPORTS

Mr. Brumley reported that the Senate request for a 12 credit plateau (any number of credits above 12 costs the same) is being considered and vetted by the administration.  They thought it was a fine idea but the cost will need to be figured.  It is in line with the BOR initiative to reduce costs for students.

VIII.    DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS

It was noted that the Drop Policy is still an issue because it is not being enforced equally by all faculty.  It’s not fair to the students if faculty are enforcing the policy in different ways.  It was agreed this topic will be added to a future agenda.  It was also requested that the student government discuss the policy and any student feedback on how the policy is implemented.  Isaiah Garrison, President of ASMSUB, agreed to add this topic to their agenda for December 3.

A.  Bylaws Review:  Chair Elect Language

Susan Gilbertz and Dave Gurchiek will work together on the proposed language.

B.  Homeless Courses” Group

A meeting is planned for January.  It was agreed the Provost should also attend the meeting.

C.  Revive Former CPSLL Curriculum Committee

This discussion topic involves two issues:  the PSLL rubric created for for-credit courses which no longer has a home (the College of Professional Studies and Lifelong Learning no longer exists), and the issue of the multitude of non-credit courses offered by MSUB Downtown which have no faculty oversight.

D.  Degree in a Three Year Period:  Fall/Spring/Summer schedule.

The Regents are moving in new directions to reduce cost and time for students, and those directions do not include a three semester/trimester system.

E.  Gen Ed Credit Reduction

It was noted that this initiative did not come from Bozeman, but rather our Chancellor.

The meeting adjourned at 4:57 p.m.
