Announcing the NEW Montana State University Billings Explore Montana Award for Non-Resident Students

Available to new freshmen and transfer students (2019-2020)

In our on-going effort to keep the cost of education affordable, Montana State University Billings (MSU Billings) has created a scholarship award especially for non-resident freshman and transfer students pursuing their first undergraduate degree at MSU Billings beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year. Award amounts will vary from $500 to $10,000 per year and will be renewable.

Initial Awarding Criteria

Awards are limited. Early application by June 1, 2019 is encouraged to ensure consideration; however, the awards will be awarded on a rolling basis. To qualify, students must complete their application for admission and have a GPA of 2.75 or greater.

For high school students, the GPA requirements are determined based on GPA on the application and a 7th semester high school transcript.

For transfer students, the GPA requirements are determined based on unofficial transcripts with cumulative GPA calculated by the MSU Billings Office of Registrar and Records. Awards vary by campus based on tuition rates.

Please note: International undergraduate students may be eligible for these awards. Eligibility is determined by the Office of International Studies (OIS). For more information contact the OIS at 406-657-1705 or ois@msubillings.edu

Students Must Meet the Criteria Below to Qualify for Renewal

  • Maintain MSU Billings institutional GPA of 2.75 or greater,
  • Earn a minimum of 15 credits a semester at MSU Billings,
  • Maintain non-resident status,
  • Maintain continuous enrollment (excluding summer) to retain the award throughout your four years at MSU Billings, and
  • New first-time freshmen must live on campus for their first two years at MSU Billings to qualify for their award.

Review of eligibility occurs after each semester’s grades are posted. Students who do not maintain the above standards will lose eligibility for the award for all future semesters.

Conditions

The MSU Billings Explore Montana Awards are for students who do not meet the criteria for either in-state or Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) residency statuses. Find out more about WUE. The Award may be replaced with a WUE scholarship if the student’s residency status changes.

The MSU Billings Explore Montana Award is only available to those seeking their first undergraduate degree (certificate, associate, bachelor, and 2+2 programs) at MSU Billings.

Awarding occurs based on the GPA available when the student is admitted to MSU Billings.  Transfer students must submit their unofficial transcript(s) from all regionally accredited institution(s) at which they have attended, at the time of admission to be considered. These MSU Billings Explore Montana Awards are determined using this initial information and will not be adjusted. Additionally, students may qualify for these awards at the time of admission only.

The MSU Billings Montana Awards are tuition discount awards. As such, all combined tuition discount awards cannot exceed the total tuition charged per term. These awards will be applied toward on-campus tuition only, therefore students who are classified with solely-online tuition rates are not eligible.

All offers are subject to final verification and review.
