Housing Updates

Residence Halls Close May 3 @ Noon

We have enjoyed having you live with us this year, but it is almost over and the Residence Life staff is asking your cooperation in closing the halls for Spring semester.  Rimrock and Petro Halls officially close at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2013.

  • All residence hall students will need to be officially checked out of their room by 12:00 pm on Friday.
  • Students who have contracted with our office to stay on campus for the summer session will NOT have to be checked-out by Friday, but will need to move rooms according to the information provided in the summer room assignment letter.
  • If you are unable to check-out by Friday due to graduation, sports or another extenuating circumstance, please contact our office (SUB 221) by April 26 in order to have your name placed on the late check-out list and make arrangements.

Checking Out of Your Residence Hall Room

All residents will receive an express check out packet in their mailbox on April 16th. After receiving the packet in your mailbox, please complete the following steps.

EXPRESS CHECK-OUT
This check-out option has been designed to make the check-out process more efficient for you and your RA.  When you are ready to check-out, you simply take your packet, and check yourself out of your room.  When you have completed your check-out, you will return your keys and packet to the front desk.   At the end of each day, the RA will check those rooms that have completed an express check-out and verify that the damages, or lack thereof, you put on your sheet are correct.

If you select this option, you will sign a form stating you have waived your right to negotiate your check-out and that if the RA finds additional damages or cleaning charges that you did not mark on your room inventory sheet, you will still be billed for those charges or damages.

This is a great option for you if you do not have any room damages and will completely clean your room before checking out.  You can check-out at a time convenient for you and do not have to set a specific time with your RA.

MEETING WITH YOUR RESIDENT ASSISTANT
If you do not wish to complete the express check out method, you will need to contact your RA to establish a time to meet with him/her to complete your check-out. At the time of your check-out, your RA will inspect your room, discuss any room charges with you, have you sign the necessary paperwork, and collect your keys.  If you select this option, you will need to have your room completely empty and cleaned, furniture in its original place, and keys ready to be turned in at the time you have signed up for.  Please have your express packet ready for your RA.

Students who have arranged for a late check-out will be required to do an express check-out and not have the option to meet with your resident assistant.

CLEANING YOUR ROOM
In order to avoid any room cleaning charges, you will need to do the following things:

  • Wash all windows, walls, bookshelves, closets, inside of drawers, etc.
  • Clean the mirror
  • Clean the sink and counter
  • Sweep and mop the floor
  • Remove all contact paper and residue
  • Remove all tape from the closet doors and room door (inside and out)
  • If you have a phone it must be cleaned and all pieces with it and left for the RA or you will be charged

All furniture that was in your room at the beginning of the year must be back in the room and in the original formation; this includes anything you had stored.

DONATIONS
If you have good quality used items you do not wish to keep while you are cleaning your room, there will be donation boxes located in the lobby of your residence hall.

CINDER BLOCKS
If you have cinderblocks you do not wish to take with you, please DO NOT throw them down the trash chute.  There will be signs on your floor indicating locations you may stack your cinder blocks.

We thank each of you for an excellent semester and wish you luck on your finals.  If you have questions regarding this letter, please contact the Housing Office at x2333 or stop by the SUB, room 221.  Have a wonderful summer!
