Research consistently shows that women with disabilities, regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or class, are assaulted, raped, and abused at a rate of two times greater than women without disabilities.

The primary audiences who will directly benefit from the End Violence Against Women With Disabilities project are women with disabilities, service providers for disabilities, violence against women, domestic and sexual violence, and other service providers across the state of Montana. Through a system of services, the project will provide education, technical assistance, and outreach to ensure that women with disabilities who are violated receive the appropriate accommodations.

The Montana Project to End Violence Against Women with Disabilities is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Some Interesting Facts:

Among adults who are developmentally disabled, as many as 83% of the females are the victims of sexual assault.

40% of women with physical disabilities reported being sexually assaulted.

38% of women with disabilities who have been married experienced sexual violence by their partner.

Only 3% of sexual abuse cases involving people with developmental disabilities are ever reported.
