The SIC was the standard for classifying US Industries. It is to be replaced by NAICS.

Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios. Business Reference
Financial ratios for 800 retailing, wholesaling, manufacturing, and construction lines of business. It calculates 14 key ratios based on credit reports. It does not provide historical data or revenue breakdowns. Published by Dun & Bradstreet.

The second place to look for information on industries is the Economic Census. This census is run every five years.
