Kids on Campus Camps Summer 2018

What is Kids on Campus?

Art CampMSUB Youth Programs welcomes elementary to high-school aged students to our campuses, to give them an early experience of being at college.  Our Kids on Campus camps meet in classrooms, computer labs, and other teaching labs at both the main MSUB campus and City College.  Students thrive in this fun, relaxed way of keeping their young minds active and growing outside the regular classroom.

Our experienced instructors are enthusiastic people who lead hands-on camps in their specialty areas.  We aim for a low instructor-student ratio of 1:10.  We offer a wide variety of themes that appeal to many interests and age groups.  These include camps that are creative in nature, as well as science- and technology-based, practical training, and career-oriented camps.  Many of our popular camps repeat each year, and we are working on new additions all the time.

Repurposing is really popular right now.  Artists are taking what others consider junk and imagining a new future for it, transforming cast-away items into delightful new combinations.  Whether it is earrings made out of fishing lures, or a lamp made from a bicycle wheel, the only limit is your imagination.  Learn how to see the potential for new configurations of random objects.  See something that no one else can see.  Take discarded or forgotten items that might be headed to the landfill, and turn them into a quirky or beautiful piece of decorative art.  In this creative camp, you will start with diamonds in the rough and turn them into sparkling jewels.

Some camps are about computers.  Some camps are about knitting.  Unfortunately for you, this one isn't.

Unless you are particularly ingenious, you shouldn't sign up.  Unless you like to solve unnecessary problems, you should pass.  Maybe you're the type that likes a challenge.  You've been warned!

There are rooms you'll need to escape.  There are puzzles that require more than one person.  (We sincerely hope you aren't the only one to sign up.  That would be a real problem for you.)

Something has gone wrong at camp.  Do you dare try to solve it?

Perhaps you should consider knitting.

Let your mother know you'll be safe, solving a complex mystery that unfolds little-by-little over 5 days.  You'll use critical thinking to solve multi-faceted logical & physical puzzles; it's the type of challenging thinking your teacher dreams about.  You'll even take home your own mystery kit, full of ciphers and riddles.
