Study Abroad Spain: Letra Hispanica

Program Overview

Letra Hispanica is a school that primarily teaches Spanish language and culture.  The goal of Letra Hispancia is to teach students these subjects in the classroom and then have the students experience them in the real world.  Students engage in daily classroom instruction as well as a variety of cultural activities.  Accommodations are provided through a homestay experience, which allows students to immerse themselves outside of the classroom and in everyday living.

Location: Salamanca, Spain
Language of Instruction: Spanish or English (Dependent upon level of language proficiency)
Levels: Undergraduate
Subjects: Spanish language, culture, history, and literature
Length: Academic Semester, Year, or Summer Course
Estimated Cost: $8000 – Subject to semester.  Cost includes tuition, homestay living arrangements, meals, laundry, and excursions.

Deadlines

  • October 15th for Spring Semester
  • February 7th for Summer
  • March 15th for Fall Semester

Eligibility

Open to students who have attended one full academic year at MSU Billings with a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Academic Credit

Credit will be awarded at MSU Billings for all courses taken and passed at Letra Hispanica. As part of the application process the student will confer with their academic advisor to determine how their credits at Letra Hispanica will apply to their degree course requirements at MSU Billings.

Location

Salamanca is medium sized city in Spain, with a population of 170,000.  It is located 200km from Madrid and 100km from Portugal.  Salamanca, in the past called “little Rome” has three universities with more than 40,000 students.  It’s a safe and peaceful city, with many cultural establishments, such as libraries, art exhibits, theatres, and cinemas. Students also have the opportunity for entertainment at restaurants, pubs, cafes, gyms, and sporting events.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Financial aid may be used for studying abroad at Letra Hispanica. Additional costs for studying in Spain (e.g. airfare) may be used in calculating a student’s financial aid package. Students need to make an appointment with the Financial Aid Office in McMullen 103 (E-mail: finaid@msubillings.edu; Phone: 657-2188). Students should fill out the FAFSA form and plan to visit the Financial Aid office early to discuss eligibility (at least one semester in advance).
