Meet with faculty advisor and/or academic adviser to discuss your plans, including courses of interest and possible equivalencies. |

Financial aid may be available to students for a study abroad experience. Financial aid is awarded on a case-
by-case basis, depending on student eligibility and other various factors. If you plan to use financial aid: |

- Submit a FAFSA form for the year you intend to Study Abroad.
- Make an appointment to meet with the Director of Financial Aid at least one semester in advance.
- Bring documentation of costs for the trip and you course approval form signed by your academic advisor.

| Applying to a Program |

Submit completed and signed application forms and $150 application fee. |
 |
Schedule a 20-minute interview session with the Office for International Studies. |
 |
| Pre-departure Preparation |
| Once you have received official notice of your acceptance from OIS, you may proceed with the following: |
 |
Apply for a passport. (This can take 4-6 weeks). |
 |
Make flight arrangements and be prepared to pay airline bill. |
 |
Inquire from a travel agent or country consular office(s) about visa requirements for all countries you plan to
visit, and follow instructions in a timely manner. U.S. Department of State lists foreign entry requirements on its web site (http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html). |

Check the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) web site, http://www.cdc.gov/travel for information on required
and recommended vaccinations for the country to which you are traveling. |
 |
Make arrangements to obtain health/medical insurance while abroad. |
 |
Make an appointment with your physician to receive a general physical exam to ensure you are in good health
to travel abroad. |
 |
Plan a budget and obtain sufficient funds to cover expenses while abroad. Ensure that these funds are either
accessible from abroad (credit card, ATM) or can be carried with you (traveler’s checks). |
 |
Prepare to receive and pay a bill for your tuition and fees. |
 |
Attend the mandatory Study Abroad Orientation Meeting. |
 |
Check the State Department website (http://travel.state.gov/) regularly between now and your departure date
for information related to safety in the countries you plan to visit. |
 |
Inform your family or friends of where and how you can be reached while abroad. |
 |
Participation and Beyond! |
 |
Participate in your study abroad program and have a great experience! |
 |
Request official transcripts from your host institution and submit to the Office for International Studies. |
 |
Consider all of the ways you can continue your international experience when you return to MSU-B.
