Abroad Opportunities
In addition to the programs offered directly through MSU Billings, students have a variety of alternative options. Brief information regarding these options is listed below, though students are encouraged to obtain more information by visiting the program websites. Application processes and deadlines may vary by organization and program. Students who would like to utilize one of these alternative options are encouraged to visit with the Office of International Studies in Cisel Hall 202.
Montana State University Bozeman Study Abroad Programs
Study abroad exchange programs at MSU-Bozeman are available to students who attend MSU Billings. If a student would like to study abroad at one of the various exchange programs offered at Bozeman, they would become a Bozeman student for the extent of the exchange and pay Bozeman’s tuition. Exchange programs can be highly competitive, so students are encouraged to apply early.
International
Student Exchange Program (ISEP)
The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) is a membership organization of nearly 220 higher education institutions in the United States and 35 other countries that are committed to international exchange. ISEP serves its member institutions and their students by facilitating affordable university-level exchanges on a reciprocal basis. ISEP is committed to international educational exchange as an integral component of higher education, accessible to all students regardless of social and economic background. A student can participate in an ISEP program and remain an MSU Billings student. Cost of these programs varies by country and institution.
College
Consortium for International Studies (CCIS)
The College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) is an organization that essentially sets up relationships with U.S. universities and foreign institutions, allowing students from around the world to study in different countries. A student may participate in a CCIS program and remain an MSU Billings student. Cost of these programs varies by country and institution.
Here are some benefits to studying with CCIS:
- Choice of more than 40 study abroad programs in 28 countries around the world for a semester, summer, or full academic year.
- Option of living with a host family: Many programs feature this option, which accelerates foreign language acquisition and gives in-depth knowledge of another culture.
- Access to student services: CCIS programs offer many extra features, such as orientation, on-site support and academic counseling, social activities, field trips and excursions.
- Wide range of courses: Curricular options include intensive foreign language courses as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences, physical sciences, business, studio art and design, and marketing.
- Entry in programs at all language levels: Foreign language courses are required in non-English speaking countries as part of the semester program; students can start at any level, from elementary to advanced.
- Competitive Costs: Costs vary, depending on the cost of living and currency exchange rates in various countries, but CCIS programs are generally very affordable compared with many other overseas study programs.
- Assistance with credit transfer.
- Eligibility for many forms of financial aid.
