EDU495B/C: New Zealand Student Teaching Abroad

MSUB students will spend four weeks in Auckland, the country’s most diverse city with over 100 ethnicities and more than 150 languages spoken on a daily basis (Education Review Office, 2018). While there, they will be placed in a school as a student-teacher where they will observe, interact with, and teach students while being mentored by a New Zealand master teacher and supervised by a MSUB university supervisor (Dr. Melanie Reaves). They will also live with a New Zealand family for a full immersive cultural experience. On the weekends, students will be encouraged to explore the area in and around Auckland and we will take one group excursion to Rotorua, an area steeped in the Maori culture and known for its beautiful geography. We will also visit Hobbiton, the movie set for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, and the beautiful Karagahake Gorge, cut by the winding Ohinemuri River.
