POSITION:                            INSTRUCTOR-Process Plant Technology

DATE TO START:                Spring Semester 2010

 

STARTING SALARY:          Dependent upon education/experience and subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  This appointment is to be a tenurable position.

 

BARGAINING UNIT:          Vocational-Technical Educators of Montana

 

Montana State University Billings is the third largest University in Montana and is located in Montana’s largest city.  The Senior campus, College of Technology and Downtown campus together are home to approximately 5,000 students.  The University has six colleges, which offer a wide variety of degree programs to its students.  Montana State University Billings employs approximately 500 employees, who together work hard to create an outstanding University.

 

DESCRIPTIONThe successful applicant will deliver instruction to develop well qualified operators and lead the Process Plant Technology Program.

 

Responsibilities include teaching a maximum 30 credits and /or 25 contact hours per semester in both the classroom and laboratory setting; serve as program coordinator, instructor, student program advisor and internship coordinator for the Process Plant Technology Program; teach spring semester 2010 curriculum; meet grant objectives; develop supportive relationships with community resources; work with local, state and national organizations in order to gain program accreditation; participate in MSU Billings and College of Technology committee assignments and activities; maintain and grow industrial partnerships.  This position will also be responsible for non-credit activities, establishing industry related partnerships, grant writing, and other fund raising activities.  This faculty member will participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and could teach non-traditional hours and/or online as needed or warranted.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required:

·        Bachelors Degree.

·        Five years current relevant industry experience with a minimum of three years experience in Process Plant Operations (oil refinery, power plant, chemical or other processes).

·        Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with a diverse population of students of varying ages and backgrounds.

·        Interaction with regional industry to address needs of the program.

·        Demonstrated ability in using computer based process control.

·        Ability to convert practical aspects of Process Plant technology into cohesive academic units while preserving a safe classroom and lab environment.

·        Demonstrated ability in using computer based safety training and computer simulation of industrial plant processes.

·        Ability to use the web to post assignments and monitor student progress.

 

Preferred:

·        Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

·        Teaching experience at a two-year technical or community college.

·        Supplemental courses in teaching methods and curriculum.

·        Experience in grant writing.

·        Operations experience in hyrdroelectric facilities.
