Montana State University Billings is the third largest University in Montana and is located in Montana’s largest city.  The Senior campus, College of Technology and Downtown campus together are home to approximately 5,000 students.  The University has six colleges, which offer a wide variety of degree programs to its students.  Montana State University Billings employs approximately 500 employees.

DESCRIPTION:   Facilities Services is responsible for repairs and maintenance of all buildings, landscape and grounds, building utilities, custodial services, as well as all planning, design and construction for a University of 1.5 million sq-ft of buildings on 115 acres. 

The Assistant Director is responsible for the efficient management of human, fiscal and physical resources to provide facilities and infrastructure which support the mission of the University.  This position manages and supervises skilled employees, including compliance with labor contracts, directing work unit activities, performing a full range of personnel supervisory tasks, and making organizational and operational changes necessary to meet departmental goals.  In addition, this position is specifically tasked with providing multi-discipline professional services, utility operations and budget administration, technical maintenance and operations services to campus personnel and facilities. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering or related field.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction project management practices, codes, contract administration and construction estimating.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices (primarily mechanical and electrical), utility systems and plant operations.

  • Demonstrated success in personnel supervision and management.

  • Experience in budget management.

  • Experience in resource conservation and energy management.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Licensure in the State of Montana or possess the ability to obtain MT license within 6 months of start date.

  • Experience in utility management and open market commodity procurement.

  • Experience working in a union environment.

  • Record of progressively responsible facilities maintenance and operations management experience in a large, multi-building complex preferably in a public institution environment.

  • Experience working with the public, private ventures and government agencies.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:   will possess the ability to provide leadership and assume responsibility for organizational and program activities; will work productively with a diverse group of internal and external personnel and will have demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral and written communication skills that promote their ability to present, persuade, defend and gain support for the full spectrum of departmental issues and to represent MSUB to a wide variety of constituents such as the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, legislators, affiliated campus administrators, state and local agencies, etc.
