POSITION: Textbook/Tradebook Buyer, Storekeeper II

8:00am – 5:00pm Friday
Some Saturdays required 9:00am-1:00pm
(Hours may vary and overtime is required during peak periods.)

STARTING SALARY: $9.802 per hour with benefits. Consideration of higher wage dependent upon demonstrated exceptional qualifications.

Montana State University Billings is the third largest University in Montana and is located in Montana’s largest city. The Senior campus, College of Technology and Downtown campus together are home to approximately 5,000 students. The University has six colleges, which offer a wide variety of degree programs to its students. DESCRIPTION: The Textbook/Tradebook Buyer is primarily responsible for the collection
of adoption data from faculty and staff, verifying accuracy and completeness of these data,
researching market availability of used books, maintaining inventory control files using the
MBS TA2 textbook management system, ordering books from publishers, receiving of
merchandise and verifying accuracy of invoicing, preparing invoicing for payment, and
processing returns of all unsold merchandise to publishers. The incumbent also coordinates the
book buyback program and schedules buyers and facilities six times a year.
The Buyer is responsible for the collection of data from the academic community that supports the acquisition of trade titles related to the academic programs offered and maintains adequate inventory control and sales of these titles. The buyer also maintains inventory and manages the sales of general titles and magazines.
The incumbent in this position is required to produce annual operating budgets to include sales forecasts, open-to-buy reports, and inventory management reports. In addition, this position is required to develop marketing strategies and plans for the text/trade departments and to evaluate these plans to ensure success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ø High School diploma or equivalency with some advanced training in retail management, accounting and marketing principles required.
Ø At least two (2) years of retail supervisory experience preferred.
Ø Familiarity with computerized point-of-sale systems used in the retail industry preferably the MBS Text management system.
Ø Knowledge of and experience with accounting, bookkeeping and cash control principles and practices in a retail setting.
Ø Ability to train, motivate, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned employees.
Ø Excellent organizational skills required.
Ø Ability to work independently and make judgment decisions that affect relations with customers and the community.
Ø Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ø Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ø Proven record of working in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting with considerable public contact is preferred.
Ø Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
Ø Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds repeatedly during busy period. May be required to lift up to seventy (70) pounds occasionally.
Ø Position requires repetitive lifting, reaching and stretching and will require standing for long periods of time during busy periods.
